Detra 'Denay' Davis is a passionate home cook and baker, entrepreneur, and author. Denay started her food career as a caterer, after serving in the United States Navy. She then relocated to Cary, North Carolina where she started a home-based bakery business and started teaching food history and sharing her knowledge about Southern food and cooking techniques. Denay's mission is to share the importance of learning about Black food history because it reflects the cultural creation stemming from slavery, and Native American and European influences. She wants to inspire others to learn more about their culinary heritage so that they can create delicious dishes that represent their unique story. Denay wants to introduce everyone to the delicious world of African American cuisine. This food is more than just a way to fill our stomachs – it is a way for us to connect with our African roots and honor our identity and culture.
